Rewriting the Rules for Emerging Artists.
Semester9 is a contemporary art initiative created with artists and curators, for artists and curators.
We're what happens when you cross an artist-driven community with exhibition opportunities, sprinkle on some anarchic energy, and focus relentlessly on one thing: getting great artists where they belong - in front of audiences that matter.

Forget labels - we're not your typical art organisation. We're equal parts a launchpad for talent, exhibition makers, commercial disruptors and advisors. We blend these roles into something entirely new: a platform that gives emerging artists the tools, exposure, and tough love they need to thrive on their own terms. Semester9 makes a small yet much needed difference in an art world where galleries play it safe, institutions move slow and the art market chases commercial fads.

The name Semester 9? It's that make-or-break moment after art school ends but before the art world notices you. We turn that uncertain 9th Semester into a breakthrough moment for emerging artists.

Meet Pim Lamme: The Founder

Frustrated by watching talented artists and curators struggle after art school, Pim Lamme founded Semester9 to create tangible opportunities. This Amsterdam-based gallerist and art dealer bridges the gap between education and the art market through bold action. His work extends beyond Semester9 to Projectspace 38.40 where he brings contemporary art into dialogue with other creative disciplines.

Lamme actively shapes the Dutch art scene by curating exhibitions that connect emerging European artists and beyond. His projects address pressing social issues including digital culture, migration, polarisation and ritual in our current world. By creating various platforms for talent, he ensures that art does not only reflect the present but also actively shapes our culture.

Loods6

A home for contemporary art by the water.
Loods6 is a historic warehouse space located on the KNSM island in Amsterdam - once a port for ocean liners, now home to a vibrant community of creatives. With its raw character and generous light, Loods6 offers an ideal setting for experimental exhibitions.Semester9 collaborates with Loods6 to present large-scale shows that bring together emerging and established voices in unexpected ways. The building’s layered history reflects our own interest in crossing boundaries - between past and present, context and experimentation.

Amsterdam Art Week

Where the city becomes a stage for contemporary art
Amsterdam Art Week is an annual event that transforms the city into a dynamic network of galleries, institutions, project spaces and collectors - highlighting the best of contemporary art in the Netherlands and beyond. For Semester9, participating in Amsterdam Art Week means stepping into a broader conversation: one that celebrates new voices, taking some risk, and public engagement.

Projectspace 38/40

Small space, big ideas
Projectspace 38/40 is an independent exhibition space co-founded by Semester9 in the heart of Amsterdam-Noord. Located in a compact storefront, it offers an intimate setting for artists to experiment, show new work, and test out ideas. With its direct connection to the street and informal atmosphere, 38/40 serves as a counterpoint to the white cube - this concerns a space where the process of exhibition making is part of the presentation.
